Quayside Marine Sewage & Sludge Disposal Services
in Hull & the Humber

Operating a vessel in the modern offshore sector demands strict compliance with both international maritime laws and stringent local environmental controls. Inside harbour limits and within the sensitive ecosystems of the Humber Estuary, port authorities enforce a strict Zero-Discharge Policy.
Modern ships utilise highly complex, heavily regulated Marine Sanitation Devices (MSDs) to meet the strict International Maritime Organisation Marine Pollution Annex IV – Prevention of Pollution by Sewage from Ships (IMO MARPOL – Annex IV) environmental standard.
The Port of Hull Port Reception Facilities (PRFs) operate under a highly structured regulatory framework designed to prevent marine pollution in the Humber Estuary using a mix of fixed and mobile infrastructure to handle ship waste safely.
Hull’s commercial ship berths generally lack direct quay-to-sewer pipe connections for black water. Sewage waste removal is almost exclusively handled via road tankers (vacuum tankers). For compliance the pumping, transport, and treatment of marine sewage waste is executed by environmental-agency-licensed sewage waste contractors.
When advanced Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) – such as the Norwind Mistral – or other commercial ships enter the Port of Hull or surrounding docks, all overboard discharge is strictly prohibited. To maintain operational continuity during vital construction, commissioning, and wind farm maintenance phases, vessels rely on swift, seamless shore-side infrastructure to clear their internal wastewater holding tanks.
Waterland Event Hire & Site Services provides quayside tanker services designed to handle the fast-paced turnaround schedules of the marine sector. As a trusted local partner based right on the A63/M62 corridor, we ensure your vessel remains fully compliant, clean, and ready for its next deployment.
We deploy high-capacity HGV vacuum tankers directly to your berth to handle two distinct waste streams generated by advanced onboard Marine Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs):
- Treated Grey & Black Water Extraction – high-volume grey water (from showers, laundry, and the galley) and black water (from vacuum toilets and medical bays) is held securely in internal ship tanks while in port.
We connect our high-powered vacuum tankers directly to the ship’s bunker station using the mandated MARPOL Standard Shore Connection (the uniform 210mm bolted flange). By securing an airtight, watertight seal with heavy-duty gaskets, we extract thousands of litres of wastewater quickly and cleanly, ensuring zero exposure to the quay or the marine environment. - Sludge & Biomass Desludging – the dense, mud-like bacterial mass that accumulates at the bottom of advanced biological aerobic STPs and membrane bioreactors which cannot be broken down further or discharged at sea, must be stored on board.
Clearing thick marine sewage sludge requires specialised equipment. Our operators coordinate closely with the ship’s engineering crew as they agitate the sludge tank. Using raw, high-pressure suction, our HGV tankers draw out the heavy sludge before flushing the lines with clean grey water, leaving the connection lines spotless prior to unbolting.
Environmental Duty of Care & Legal Compliance
In the marine sector, paperwork is just as critical as the physical extraction. A single undocumented discharge or unverified waste transfer can lead to severe penalties and heavy environmental corporate fines.
When you contract Waterland, you gain total regulatory peace of mind.
Waterland Event Hire & Site Services, are registered as an Upper Tier Waste Carrier with the Environment Agency. We issue Duty of Care Waste Transfer Notes to every customer, and to Yorkshire Water, meaning your waste is fully traceable.

Our Environment Agency –
Registered Waste Carrier number is: CBDU360422.
For every single marine load we extract, we issue a comprehensive Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note. This document provides the exact timestamps, volumes (m³), and location data required by the Chief Engineer to seamlessly update the ship’s official Sewage Record Book for port inspectors.
Your waste is taken to a licensed Yorkshire Water facility, where it is treated and recycled.

The treated water is safely returned to the environment, while solid materials are recycled into useful resources such as renewable energy and fertilisers.
Waste transfer details are provided to Yorkshire Water, ensuring every load is fully traceable, recorded, and handled in accordance with environmental regulations.
Based out of Brough on the outskirts of Hull, our fleet is perfectly positioned at the intersection of the M62 and A63. This strategic location allows us to offer highly competitive pricing and rapid response times across the key regional port facilities of:
- The Port of Hull (All docks and wind terminal berths)
- Goole Docks.
We work directly with ship owners, operators, offshore wind logistics managers, and local ship agents to align our arrivals precisely with your vessel’s docking windows.
